ONLINE LGBTQI GLOSSARY
TERMINOLOGY ASSOCIATED WITH DIVERSITY IN SEXUAL ORIENTATION, GENDER IDENTITY, AND GENDER EXPRESSION

This segment of the website contains three glossaries:

Beginner's Glossary: This glossary contains only the most basic terms that are needed to describe sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression diversity. This glossary is a good place to start, but once these terms are learned, any individual who wishes to be able to discuss LGBT issues or diversity with awareness and respect should move on to the Fundamental Glossary.

Fundamental Glossary: This glossary contains terms that are in common usage and which are recommended knowledge for people who seek LGBT cultural competence. Professionals who work with LGBTQI youth, adults, or families should, at minimum, be familiar with the terms in this glossary, and fluent and comfortable using them. The definitions provided in the Fundamental Glossary are basic, with minimal explanation to ensure that users of the glossary are able to use the terms in a way that is respectful of LGBTQI, and sensitive to the issues facing LGBTQI. The Fundamental Glossary contains all the terms that are included in the Beginners' Glossary, so an individual who begins with the Fundamental Glossary will not be missing any information.

Advanced Glossary: This glossary contains more than 70 terms, and the definitions and explanations for many of these terms are extensive, designed to provide the user with historical and cultural information about each term as well as the definition, so that this glossary can be used to increase one's LGBTQI cultural competency.
